Mind the bile ducts’ campaign for the EuropaColon Foundation

Client: EuropaColon Foundation Poland

Brief: Creation of an education and information campaign raising the topic of biliary tract cancer in order to build awareness of the disease; drawing attention to the non-obvious symptoms of the disease and the challenges faced by patients, i.e. accessibility to diagnosis and modern therapies.

Results:

  • Building interest around the disease, both on the part of patients who approached the Foundation with a desire to get involved in the campaign, and among decision-makers responsible for drug policy in Poland, as well as the media, which had not previously written about this health problem.
  • Organising a meeting of the Senate Health Committee and the Parliamentary Group for Cancer Prevention – RAK STOP.
  • Awareness campaign on SoMe with biliary tract cancer patients.
  • Nearly 180 publications with a reach of over 11.8 million.

Challenges:

  • Bringing public and media attention to a rare disease that affects 1,750 people in Poland annually.
  • Create a strategy to bring the problem to the attention of key decision makers.

Description:

Biliary tract cancer is a silent killer that attacks from hiding, often remaining undetected until an advanced stage.  Patients and their loved ones experiencing this disease are often left alone in their journey. That is why, as part of the ‘Mind the bile ducts’ campaign, we decided to help patients and their loved ones navigate the meanderings associated with the disease at different stages by creating, among other things, the website www.zoltedrogi.pl and an interactive Biliary Tract Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Map.

Activities:

  • Campaign launch in the form of a press meeting with the participation of key health media.
  • Creation of the first comprehensive website www.zoltedrogi.pl with access to information on bile duct cancer.
  • Creation of an interactive Bile Duct Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Map, which serves as a patient’s navigation through the intricacies of the disease.
  • Engaging decision-makers and drawing their attention to the problem of bile duct cancer.
  • Implementation of webinars for patients and their relatives with the participation of experts – 44 participants took part in the online meeting and over 1,600 views of the recorded material.
  • Production of podcasts for patients and their loved ones with the participation of experts.
  • Active support for the Foundation in conducting intensive press office activities and communication on SoMe channels – reaching nearly 0.5 million people with communication.
